Day 1 - Group Stage (Round Robin)

Group Draw

  • There will be 3 groups. Each group will have 6 teams.

  • Each group will have two teams from Pot 1 and four teams from Pot 2.

  • Pots are based on IQA World Cup 2023 attendance. If a nation participated in IQA World Cup 2023, they will be placed in Pot 1.

    • If Pot 1 does not have 6 teams, it will be completed with the nation(s) highest ranked in IQA World Cup 2018.

Ranking

Every team can score a certain amount of points throughout the Round Robin.

For each game played, every outcome earns a certain amount of points in certain situations.

SITUATION BEFORE FLAG CATCH

If the leading team is up by more than 3 goals, they will receive 1,5 points. The other team will receive 0,5 points.

If the game is “in range”, meaning that a team is leading/trailing by less than- or equal to 3 goals, both teams will receive 1 point.

FLAG CATCH

The team who caught the flag will receive an additional 0,25 points.

SITUATION AT THE END OF THE GAME

If the winning team ends the game with 3 goals (not counting the flag catch) more than the opponent, they will receive an additional 1 point. The other team will receive 0 points.

If the winning team ends the game, and scores the same amount-, less than 3 more, or less goals than the opponent, both teams will receive an additional 0,5 points.

The winning team at the end of the game will receive an additional 1 point.

FORFEITS & CONCEDING

If a team forfeits their game, they will earn 0 points.

The opponent will receive 3,75 points.

If a team concedes before the flag catch, the flag will automatically be awarded to the opponent, with the game ending at that score.

If it is clear the team starts the game and concedes within 10 minutes, it will still count as a forfeit.

In theory, a team can earn a total of the following points for each game:

  • 3,75 points

    • Leading “out of range” before catch, caught the flag and won the game “out of range”.

    • OR opponent forfeited

  • 3,50 points

    • Leading “out of range” before catch, did not catch the flag and won “out of range”

  • 2,75 points

    • Game “in range” before catch, caught the flag, and won the game “in range”.

  • 2,25 points

    • Trailing “out of range” before catch, caught the flag, and won the game “in range”.

  • 2,00 points

    • Leading “out of range” before catch, did not catch the flag, and lost the game “in range”.

  • 1,50 points

    • Game “in range” before catch, did not catch the flag, and lost the game “in range”.

  • 0,75 points

    • Trailing “out of range” before catch, caught the flag, and lost the game “out of range”

  • 0,50 points

    • Trailing “out of range” before catch, did not catch flag, and lost the game “out of range”.

  • 0 points

    • Forfeiting the game

FINAL RANKING OF DAY 1

At the end of the day a single ranking for all teams will be created. The ranking will be created based on the following tiebreakers:

  1. Most Total Amount of Points (of Day 1)

  2. Least Amount of Red Cards / Ejections

  3. Least Amount of Yellow Cards

  4. Least Amount of Blue Cards

  5. Head-to-Head (if applicable)

  6. Most ‘Total Amount of Points of All Opponents’

  7. Coin Toss

DAy 2 - "MacMahon Of The Hill!"

This system is inspired by both a ‘MacMahon system’ tournament format and a ‘King of The Hill’ tournament format.

This system is a brand new format designed by the QNC Gameplay Team, and hopes to completely revolutionize everything you know about how a tournament can be played.

The system is specifically designed to offer teams like-leveled, tougher ànd potentially easier games throughout the day, while still offering most teams a shot to the finals.

Will you stay on top of the hill? Will you fall? Or will you climb all the way for that ultimate upset?

How many games will be played?

A total of 76 games will be played over the weekend.

Every team will be able to play 8 games throughout the weekend.

The finalists will be able to play 10 games throughout the weekend.

Every team will also play the same amount of games at every stage.

As teams can bring 25 people on their rosters, we hope this way everyone will get enough playing time.

We are aware that in this system, multiple rematches might be played. However, in all our simulations a team played at least against 5 different opponents (over 8 games). There are also simulations where no rematches were played until the finals stage.

This stage will feature 3 rounds.

Based on the final rank of Day 1, the teams will be ordered from top to bottom. All teams will receive a specific amount of points as follows:

  1. 8,5 points

  2. 8 points

  3. 7,5 points

  4. 7 points

  5. 6,5 points

  6. 6 points

  7. 5,5 points

  8. 5 points

  9. 4,5 points

  10. 4 points

  11. 3,5 points

  12. 3 points

  13. 2,5 points

  14. 2 points

  15. 1,5 points

  16. 1 point

  17. 0,5 points

  18. 0 points

The match-up for every round is always:

  • 1 vs 2

  • 3 vs 4

  • 5 vs 6

  • 7 vs 8

  • 9 vs 10

  • 11 vs 12

  • 13 vs 14

  • 15 vs 16

  • 17 vs 18

The maximum amount of points a team can have is 8,5 points (the max originally awarded to first ranked).

The min amount of points a team a team can have is 0 points (the min originally awarded to the last ranked).

After Round 1 & Round 2 a new rank will be made based on tiebreakers:

  1. Most Points (of this stage)

  2. Lowest Rank in Previous Round (favoring teams climbing)

After Round 3 a final rank will be made based on tiebreakers:

  1. Most Points (of this stage)

  2. Highest Rank from Day 1

The top 4 of this stage will advance to the semi-finals.

All other teams will be eliminated. Their rank at this stage also decides their rank in the tournament.

For a win “out of range” *, the team will gain 1,5 points.

For a win “in range” **, the team will gain 0,75 points.

For a loss “out of range”, the team will lose 1,5 points.

For a loss “in range”, the team will lose 0,75 points.

* “out range”  = the winning team ends the game with 3 goals (not counting the flag catch) more than the opponent.

** “in range” = the winning team ends the game, and has scored the same amount, less than 3 more, or less goals than the opponent.

The idea: by winning big, you’ll climb the hill faster. By losing big, you’ll roll down the hill faster. With a narrow win, you’ll still climb, but slower …
